Purpose:
It is critical that managers understand financial information and its use for decision-making purposes.  Core concepts of finance and accounting are presented in order to provide a foundation for more advanced concepts.  Candidates will gain an understanding of the financial consequences of decisions and the role of their unit within their organization’s Strategic Plan.  While the theory of this session will be presented from a broad perspective, the applicability to your organization will be extensive.
It is important that the participants are prepared for the session.  Accordingly, they will be asked to fully review their organization’s Strategic Plan and Annual Report for the most recent period.  The reading level must be at a level where the participant can fully engage in a discussion about the article and the Annual Report.


Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this module, participants will:
• Have an awareness of  the concepts of the financial reporting system
• Interpret  the Balance Sheet, Statement of Income and Statement of Cash Flows
• Understand the performance measures and financial indicators of their organization’s Strategic Plan
• Perform basic financial analysis of financial statements
• Understand the planning and budgeting framework
• Understand the control framework and its importance to the organization’s strategy
• Understand the concepts of performance measures and their roles from a strategic and operational perspective
• Be aware of the budgeting process and its impact on the organization’s strategy
• Understand the concept of risk and appreciate the major threats and opportunities facing the organization.


Program Cost:
The course fee is $500.00, plus GST, which includes morning and afternoon coffee/tea and a light lunch.
